Do Not Believe The Myths About Hypnosis

Myths have always shrouded hypnosis and its healing arm, hypnotherapy. Some believe them to be some type of magic while others hesitate to even recognize their existence. Some of the common misconceptions linked with hypnosis and the truth behind them are given below.

There is no practice of occult involved in hypnosis. It is a very easy technique, which can be understood easily with the help of psychology and other scientific procedures. People refuse to believe in hypnosis even after watching participants effectively experiencing its power in public shows. They hold that the subjects who have undergone hypnosis are mentally not strong enough to withstand the impact of the practitioner. But this again is a complete fallacy. Hypnosis can be exercised on anyone regardless of his or her mental strength.

That hypnosis is an alternate state of consciousness is another misconception that has been doing the rounds. A hypnotized individual is fully alert of what is going on in his surroundings. Hypnosis actually induces a state of absolute calm characterized by a rise in levels of concentration, and this intensified sensitivity helps the subject to receive suggestions without difficulty.

Some researchers have concluded that hypnosis works on just 5% of the world\’s population, and this is another prevalent myth. Researchers have hit upon this low percentage because they have used the same hypnosis technique on all subjects without focusing on their individual traits. One hypnosis procedure for all is not a workable answer as different individuals come under different character types, and hence are responsive to different techniques.

Many people take hypnosis to be a form of meditation. However, meditation is essentially a personal experience that has got no involvement of communication, while communication is an integral part of any successful hypnosis. The state of trance and the state of hypnosis are entirely different from each other too. Trance is again a mental state devoid of any communication, whereas communication forms the very foundation of the hypnosis method.

A majority of people believe that it is impossible to bring about alterations in one\’s looks and conduct through hypnosis training or hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is clearly not magic that it can transform the physical appearance of a person on its own. But it can bring about a development in physical health by changing behavioural patterns like overeating and constant smoking by raising inspiration levels in an individual.

If a person falls for all the misconceptions that exist regarding hypnotherapy and doesn\’t venture to participate in a hypnotic session, then he will himself block his way to a better and healthier life.
